Animal Care Specialist

Gulf World is an AMMPA and IMATA accredited facility right across the street from the Gulf of Mexico. We are constantly striving to improve our quality of care to ensure our animals get the very best. We are looking for a self-motivated individual to join our incredible team of trainers and animals. The ACS I position works closely with other team members to ensure husbandry, training, enrichment, and area cleanliness are maintained to high standards. Our trainers develop strong positive relationships with all animals under their care. We are an extremely inclusive group and encourage creativity, novel ideas, and for trainers to pursue projects of their choosing under management guidance. Currently the bird area cares for 16 rescued parrots, an African pied crow, and a small collection of mammalian species. We offer a guest interaction program with our African pied crow, guest interaction and photo opportunities with our ambassador animals, and two theatrical shows per day where we showcase the incredible abilities of our animals.

Responsibilities: Works with other specialists to meet area goals, Participate in daily training with a variety of species, Maintains exhibit quality standards through daily cleaning and inspections under USDA guidelines, Responsible for diet preparation and feeding, Provides new daily enrichment for all animals, Cooperates with vet staff for all animal health related issues, treatments, procedures, and restraints, Keeps work area clean and organized, Complies with policies and procedures

Requirements: Bachelors degree, Basic knowledge of husbandry and operant conditioning, Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, Must have good written and oral communication skills, Knowledge of basic animal care preferably with small mammals and birds, Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and physically perform all daily tasks.
